Katrina – abdominal wall reconstruction

Katrina, aged 47, required emergency abdominal surgery on two previous occasions following illness and injury. During these operations an abdominal mesh had been placed to correct a midline hernia which had become chronically infected.

Katrina was assessed by a specialist in the south west of England who advised referral to Mr. Gore because of his specialist interest in abdominal wall reconstruction. Following an initial assessment, it was clear that only removal of the mesh would eradicate the problematic infection. To combat the recurrence of a major midline hernia, Mr. Gore used a state of the art biologic matrix which enabled control of the hernia whilst minimising future infection risk.

Katrina recovered quickly from this surgery and was able to discard her support garments within a few weeks. She now has an intact abdominal wall without hernia or infection and is able to carry on her active life as normal.
